Donald Trump and Elon Musk recently showcased a new shared interest: wrestling. The duo made headlines by appearing together at the NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championship in Philadelphia, an annual tournament featuring the nation’s top collegiate wrestlers.
Trump entered the Wells Fargo Center to a mixed reception, receiving cheers from supporters but also facing a few boos. Chants of “U-S-A” echoed through the arena as he interacted with the crowd.
Outside, protesters gathered along Pattison Avenue holding signs that read “Save our democracy” and “No fascists.” In the championship match, Wyatt Hendrickson triumphed over Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson to secure the NCAA heavyweight title. Trump congratulated both wrestlers after the match.
In a Friday interview with Fox News, Trump expressed his unwavering support for wrestlers. Musk later took to social media, praising the championship match as “amazing fighting between two super talented men!”
This joint appearance is just one of several public outings for the pair, including a visit to UFC 309 last November after Trump’s election victory and a round of golf at Trump International Golf Club earlier that month. Their friendship continues to attract attention, given the controversies surrounding Musk’s work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has faced criticism over widespread layoffs and funding cuts.
