I recently sampled pumpkin drinks from Dunkin’, Dutch Bros, and Starbucks to determine which chain truly reigns supreme.
Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte, a classic favorite since its debut in 2003, was tasty, but it didn’t steal the show for me. Dutch Bros’ caramel pumpkin drink, however, truly impressed and overshadowed its competitors.
With autumn approaching, many eagerly await the annual return of Starbucks’ PSL. This seasonal treat has inspired other coffee chains to create their own versions.
I set out to compare Starbucks’ iconic drink against pumpkin-flavored iced options from Dutch Bros and Dunkin’. Here’s how they performed.

### First Up: Dutch Bros
I visited a Dutch Bros drive-thru early on a weekday. The chain boasts over 900 locations across the U.S. I ordered a caramel pumpkin-brûlée breve ahead of time through their app so I could pick it up directly. This 24-ounce drink set me back $7.59.
The drink, while mild in pumpkin flavor, had a pleasant smoothness owing to the caramel. Its rich, velvety foam added to the overall experience.
### Next, Starbucks
After Dutch Bros, I swung by Starbucks, which is known for its numerous outlets. I ordered a medium iced Pumpkin Spice Latte for $7.21.
Starbucks’ PSL has evolved over the years, incorporating real pumpkin puree since 2015. This iteration was rich and flavorful, but I noticed a slightly bitter aftertaste that didn’t quite resonate with me.
### Finally, Dunkin’
I concluded my tasting at Dunkin’. They offer a variety of seasonal drinks and pastries, making it a staple for many. I grabbed a pumpkin-spice iced signature latte for $6.01, the best value of the bunch.
Dunkin’s offering tasted sweeter and more reminiscent of chai rather than traditional pumpkin spice. Though not as creamy as the others, it had a generous dollop of whipped cream that helped balance the sweetness.
### Conclusion
Ultimately, my favorite was Dutch Bros’ caramel pumpkin-brûlée breve. While I enjoyed the Starbucks PSL, it was somewhat bitter, and Dunkin’s version was overly sweet for my taste. Dutch Bros’ unique take and smoothness made it the clear winner in this pumpkin coffee battle.
